Open Spaces: Studios
Looking for the 2019 Open Spaces Festival? Click here for the 2019 listing.
Our biggest weekend of the year, Open Spaces festival is a celebration of the Convent’s people, spaces and places.
With over 120 studios on site, the Convent precinct is an engine room for creativity, bringing together visual artists, writers, illustrators, architects and more! At Open Spaces, we'll be throwing open the studio doors, showcasing our diverse community of artists, movers, makers, and shakers. Come along to meet and be inspired by those who call the Convent home.
Sunday, 12 – 6pm | Across the site
Wander through the studios of our creative community over Sunday. We’ll have info boards at the festival hub and volunteers to point you in the right direction. You can also join a guided walk of the studios departing from the festival info hub.
The following studios and spaces will have things to see, watch, make and discover during the festival weekend. No bookings required, just bring your curiosity.
'Black Box' by Clark-Robertson (Work in progress research video)
Saturday and Sunday, 12 – 6pm | C1.27, Convent building
In 'Black Box', duo Clark-Robertson examine the process of traversing the zone between man-made and natural environments. They suggest that to make this crossing possible, we need to transition unrecognised or unseen, through the use of the black box. Inspired by WW1 dazzle camouflage, black box theory, and predictive coding, 'Black Box' seeks to create a sense of visual dissonance, as the artists attempt to conceal in plain sight, and pass from one environment to the next.
