Open Spaces: Food
Our biggest weekend of the year, Open Spaces festival is a celebration of the Convent’s people, spaces and places.
Open Spaces brings together all the delightful and delicious food vendors that animate your tastebuds at our regular events and markets, along with some visiting festival favourites. We are a bit spoilt at the Convent with fantastic eateries on site – the Convent Bakery, Lentil as Anything, Kappaya Japanese Soul Food, and our beloved bar and café Cam’s.
Our eateries and outdoor bars will be open till late on both days of the festival. There are options for vegetarians and vegans, as well as gluten-free. We've got your food and bev covered, so you can keep on exploring.
Slow Food Farmers’ Market pop-up
This beloved monthly market at the Convent will bring a pop-up of ready-to-eat food selections to Open Spaces. Enjoy the tastiest food around, knowing it’s sustainable and ethically sourced.
Vegan Market of Melbourne pop-up
The Vegan Market at the Convent is one of the first regular vegan markets in Australia, showcasing the many facets of compassionate and sustainable living. At Open Spaces, you can check out a selection of their favourite food stalls.
Billy van Creamy
Billy van Creamy makes the creamiest, thickest natural ice cream going around. You kept Billy pretty busy at the last sunny Open Spaces, so this year they're coming prepared with all your favourite flavours. And they're thinking about bringing something special along, a flavour hand-crafted for the Convent... we won’t spoil the surprise – head on down to the Sacred Heart Courtyard to find out.
Ghost Kitchen Taiwanese Street Food
With a sense of duty and respect for the traditions of Taiwan, we welcome back Ghost Kitchen’s street-food inspired menu remains faithful to the recipes of founder Jenny Chen’s ancestors. With ingredients sourced from local farmer’s markets, this street food is healthy and nutritious, with bold, exciting flavours.
Hola taco fans, don’t miss this Melbourne favourite. Returning to the Convent, Taco Truck are known to hang out at all the best Melbourne festivals and events, so we are excited to see the yellow truck bringing all the taco deliciousness back to the Convent... and stay tuned for something extra special in the works for our event.
Wait, can I just bring my own picnic basket?
You sure can. Just leave your alcoholic drinks, glassware and any sharps at home. We do encourage you to support our vendors; they'll be out showing you what they do best over the weekend (also, did we mention the ice cream?).
Once you've grabbed a bite, why not take a seat on the bean bags and catch some live music in our Heritage Gardens or in the Sacred Heart courtyard.
