Midsumma Festival: Drop Deadly Gorgeous The Pageant
Pageants are no longer just about beauty and superiority. This comedic take at pageant culture has a queer twist. Weird Alice Yankadic, self-appointed Canadian trash drag royalty, has chosen eight of Australia’s prime QTIBPOC and LGBTQIA+ artists and provided them with three categories to show off their best assets for three hand-picked judges and yourselves. Only one will be lucky enough to go home with the title of Queer Supreme, a custom prize pack including performance opportunities across Melbourne throughout 2020.
Come celebrate these performers and the wealth of talent they have to put on display. This event is a gala and we encourage you all to dress up and strut your stuff on our pink carpet because there will also be prizes for the Belle of the Ball.

Respecting the Convent's past
This event takes place in the North Magdalen Laundry.
The Convent was inscribed on the National Heritage List in August 2017, with the Magdalen Laundry and asylum buildings recognised as an important physical record for those Australians and their families known as the Forgotten Australians. We recognise and honour the thousands of girls and women placed in care at the Convent, including those who laboured in the onsite Magdalen Laundry. The harm of institutionalisation and the trauma experienced by many residents is acknowledged as part of the Convent’s heritage. The Magdalen Laundry provides a space for artists, audiences and communities to experience new practices, narratives and histories, while respecting the heritage and social history of these spaces.
