Australian Heritage Festival: Social History Tour
Join us for two special Social History Tours as part of the Australian Heritage Festival.
Discover the diverse history of the Convent; from its use as a meeting point for the Kulin Nation, to its days as a monastic site run by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, and how it came to be the leading arts, culture and education community it is today. Hear the story of the Abbotsford Convent Coalition (ACC) and how the site was saved from high-rise development after a seven year community campaign. Our lovely volunteer guides will share living memories collected from former residents and caretakers of the land, as you explore the Convent’s stunning gardens and grounds. On this walking tour, hear more about ongoing restoration and conservation efforts, including the newly-restored Sacred Heart building and current works in the Magdalen Laundries.
There are two tours available during the Festival – Tuesday 23 April and Thursday 2 May.
