Addendum by Leisa Shelton
'Addendum' is the latest project by the Convent's artist-in-residence Leisa Shelton. She reflects on 2019 – marking for her, 30 years of continuous arts practice in Australia. Stage #01 launched in September, enabling five days of public access to Leisa's full artistic archive, alongside a series of public talks and gatherings.
Join us for Stage #02, Releasing the Archive, which will begin with a dinner from 6 –8pm surrounded by the re-installation of the full archive, and continue with the beginning of the transformation of the documents from paper to ash. The Performed Burning will continue across the next two days:
Thursday 17 October, 6pm
A shared dinner for which you are invited to bring food, questions, provocations and observations. You will eat, continue the conversation and prepare the first documents for burning at 8pm.
Friday 18 and Saturday 19 October, 10am – 6pm
The durational burning and preparation of the ashes continues. This full process is open for public to attend and the ‘disappearing’ archive will remain available for continued reading and conversation across these days.
'Addendum' takes the artist’s body of practice as a device to consider, speak to and reflect on the cultural landscape of the arts in Australia through the bespoke lens of this one independent artist archive. It proposes a model for non-institutional, embodied archives by burning the full archive to create a memorial document of ash as representative of the embodied archive.
