A Call To Actions by Luke George
We will congregate.
We will reclaim our senses.
We will be in a constant interaction with ourselves, each other and the environments we are in.
'A Call To Actions' by Abbotsford Convent Studio Residency Program recipient Luke George, invites anybody and everybody to take part in a series of intimate and organic performances across the Convent precinct this May and June.
Bringing people together to reclaim their senses by interacting with themselves, others, and the environment around them, 'A Call To Actions' asks how social and artistic interactions can take place in public, and how we share space and time. 'A Call To Actions' is open to all bodies and abilities and doesn’t require any performance or dance experience. All actions are free to and you can participate in as many as you wish.
'A Call To Actions' takes places each Wednesday, 1 – 3pm and each Saturday, 10am – 12pm throughout May and June 2018 (commencing Wednesday 2nd May), meeting in front of the Heritage garden’s rotunda. Participants are expected to be present for the full duration of each action.
'A Call To Actions' is part of 'The Action Series', an ongoing series of performances in which Luke George is exploring collectivity and intimacy in public space and the theatre. In it Luke is investigating how groups of people negotiate sharing space and can cultivate together a community that allows for risk. The series momentarily also comprises; 'Public Action' and 'Group Action'.
About the Artist
Luke George is an experimental choreographer, exploring the way we experience presence and the present, in order to look for alternative ways of being that are to do with interactivity and intimacy. Luke wishes to offer a space of creative rupture to provoke thought and action around how we can be in the world and be with each other. Luke’s work is based in a long-term research into ‘relational performance practice’ that is rooted in the choreographic, and engages with other art forms. Luke creates and performs work locally and internationally.
Luke has presented work nationally at Dance Massive, Dancehouse, Arts House, Carriageworks, Keir Choreographic Awards, AsiaTOPA, Festival of Live Art, Next Wave, PICA, Campbelltown Arts Centre and OzAsia, and internationally in France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Norway, Finland, The Netherlands, Japan, Singapore and the U.S.A.
