Unity Space Artists in Residency
Calling all artists!
If a residency exploring cultural diversity at the Convent – with a focus on arts, dance, yoga, mindfulness and qigong – catches your attention, now’s the time to get in touch.
From January to March 2018, Unity Space Artists in Residency (AIR) will be holding a residency at the Convent culminating in public performances at the Abbotsford Convent and Ready Made Works in Sydney in March 2018.
Final Call for Applications
Unity Space AIR is calling for a second round of applications for their residency, 'Dance and Being Art Residency'. The second round closes Tuesday 16 January 2018, following a succesful first round of applications in December 2017. Up to four international artists and up to five local Melbourne artists will be selected across both rounds.
About the Residency
Selected artists will collaborate, research and develop a project around the conceptual framework of Cultural Diversity and Cross Cultural Communication with Non-linguistic Medium.
The idea is for all resident artists to collaborate and co-create as a collective group, researching and developing work on the subject matter. There will also be an option to create smaller collective groups depending on the collaborations that are formed.
The outcome of the research and development will be presented in the form of a live performance.
About Unity Space
Unity Space’s AIR program will take place in different countries / cities / spaces throughout the world, having commenced in Melbourne in January 2017 with Vangelis Legakis, who developed his inaugural residency research at Prana House and Gertrude Street Yoga.
The mission and vision of 'Dance and Being Art Residency' is to nurture and support local and international artists to find a new voice of expression.
Unity Space’s Melbourne Residency has been inspired by practicing and integrating yoga and qigong philosophy within dance. Vangelis chose the Convent because of its ability to integrate the arts with mindfulness, meditation, yoga and qigong – all areas Vangelis has been researching and, for more 10 years, successfully developing into his own mode of practice, ‘Embodied Unity’.
About Vangelis Legakis

Vangelis has been teaching and spreading inter-disciplinary practices around the globe fusing dance with energy work and healing modalities for a holistic practice.
