A collection of dresses that have been designed, pattern made and sewn by Amy in Melbourne/Naarm will be showcased in a thoughtful, slow-paced fashion show.
Attendees will be invited to pore over the translucent silks, silver threads and sculptural forms of these dresses as a cast of models slowly meander the light-filled space of the Oratory, to a soundtrack composed by musician and artist Rainbow Chan.
Taking place as part of Melbourne Fashion Festival’s Independent Programme, the show will seek to illuminate the value of slow hand-craft and the potential for centuries-old dress-making techniques to guide contemporary fashion.

Amy Lawrance is a designer-maker based in Naarm, Australia. Having completed a Bachelor of Fashion Design (Honours) at RMIT during 2020, Amy has spent the last 3 years laying the foundations for her eponymous label. Working with a concise material palette of un-dyed silks and favouring clean, purposeful detail, her pieces are thoughtfully designed and produced with minimal waste, and with the ultimate goal of being special enough for someone to wear and keep for a life-time.
