In 2004 the Convent was saved and gifted to the community. The Abbotsford Convent Foundation (ACF), an independent, not-for-profit organisation and social enterprise, now owns and manages the National Heritage Listed Convent site on behalf of the public. The Abbotsford Convent Foundation (ACF) does not receive any recurrent government funding—we do it on our own—with the support of the community.

The Convent inspires a level of passion, a passion that is rarely seen in community facilities. This energy generates interaction in various forms across the precinct and materialises in an exceptional feeling of place. As the Convent is enlivened through dynamic year-round arts and cultural programming, and new areas of the precinct are activated, the opportunities for people to interact in a connected and meaningful way will grow. While this feeling of community seems intangible, this is the essence of why the Convent exists in its current form and why those who visit fall in love.
