Wominjeka! Hello!
At the Convent we welcome visitors from across the globe – both in-person and digitally. Please note, we use AI to bridge the language gap, so there may be some translation inconsistencies and missed linguistic nuances.
The Sky After Rain shares the stories of three queer members of the Iranian diaspora: Payam, Shyla, and Shaya. Their stories are told through a combination of interviews, spoken word poetry, moving images, sound design and choreographed dance. The work explores overarching themes of identity, gender, family, forgiveness, resilience, hope, love and loss.
Created by Blame the Shadows in collaboration with Tara Jade Samaya (choreographer/dancer), Pippa Samaya (photographer/videographer), Jana Plumm (editor), Shirin Shakhesi (graphic artist), Casey Hartnett (composer), and Gunay Demirci (sound designer).
The Sky After Rain is presented as part of Laundry Sessions — a curated program of sound art, experimental practice and visual storytelling unfolding across Abbotsford Convent’s Magdalen Laundry.
Blame the Shadows is an interdisciplinary and multimedia art practice, exploring themes of displacement, memory, identity, and belonging, with a focus on emotionally intimate and socially engaged storytelling.
The work of Blame the Shadows is presented across galleries, festivals, and cultural contexts in Australia and internationally, and is supported by long-term partnerships, residencies, and mentorships.
This performance includes sensitive themes and language.
