SOLSTICE is the beating heart; the axis of Karing — ‘deep winter’.
Led by Indigenous elders and artists, SOLSTICE is a reflective gathering grounded in story, smoke and seasonal transformation.
SOLSTICE is guided by a traditional smoking ceremony led by Wurundjeri elder, Aunty Annette Xiberras. Be moved by the acclaimed WILFRED BROTHERS; traditional song keepers from the remote community of Ngukurr in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. The event also features a live performance by acclaimed Yorta Yorta, DjaDja Wurrung, Ngurai Illum Wurrung and Wiradjuri custodian, MINYERRA, and a DJ set by Noongar producer and composer POLI-PEARL.
Experience ambient light and sound installations, plus, an immersive mixed-reality VR experience to the Daintree Rainforest in JULAYMBA, narrated by Eastern Kuku Yalanji elder Richard Burchill and produced by award-winning PHORIA studio.
Entry to SOLSTICE is only $5, with a pay-as-you-feel donation encouraged to support the Abbotsford Convent Foundation’s ongoing work supporting Indigenous artists and community.
