Cloud May Studio ‘s first solo exhibition showcases the unique intersection of traditional weaving and contemporary sculpture.

This body of work showcases cloth forms, meticulously crafted from unique natural fibres and unexpected found materials. Suspended by metal and timber scaffolding, the pieces delve into the fundamental grid, uncovering its potential as both a structural foundation and a source of artistic discovery.  Creating from a meditative, experimental and fluid origin, Cloud May looks for ways to push conventional approaches to weaving. With a keen focus on surface building, light play and scale, Cloud May’s pieces create a hum of interconnectivity and a suspension of time that encourages a closer look.

Open throughout Open House Melbourne, Cloud May will be hosting a demonstration on her floor loom in the gallery space. Trace the journey of creation within the craft of weaving at this event. The finished sculptural works are displayed in dialogue with the tools that formed them, the initial explorations in samples, and the inspiring elements that fuelled their conception, offering a personal insight into the artist’s process. This event offers a unique opportunity to connect directly with the artist, witness their creative process firsthand, and engage in insightful conversations.
