Create your own archetypal chef’s apron.

Read a pattern, cut fabric and construct an archetypal chef’s apron from scratch at this workshop over two weeks, led by The System.

You will learn the anatomy of a domestic sewing machine and its functions, how to thread the machine, wind a bobbin, the role of thread tensions, and a number of different stitches and settings.

You will learn how to read a pattern, cut fabric following correct grainlines, and construct the pieces into one-of-three apron designs.

You’ll also learn to sew both straight and curved seams, how facings function, to mark and place functioning patch pockets, how to finish edges neatly and how to bag out and create long ties for your apron.

The use of an overlocker for the facings will be an option in this class.

This class is designed for absolute beginner sewers to confident intermediate sewers. Three levels of difficulty will be provided to cater to your skill level.

What will be provided?
  • All equipment and materials will be provided such as scissors, snips, and pins. Their use is included in the cost of the course. A variety of fabric styles will be made available.
  • Professional cardboard patterns. These may be transferred to paper if you would like to take them home following the class.
  • Most work will be completed on domestic sewing machines which will be provided. If you have your own machine that you are familiar with, you are welcome to bring it along, you may learn more about it through our class.
  • Coffee and tea, black and Japanese green.
Do I need to bring anything?

  • Although work orders will be provided, It’s also a good idea to bring along a notepad and your own pen to take notes of the things you learn.
