Sentinels Book Launch

In Sentinels, Michael Dulaney explores how climate change and environmental destruction are driving an unprecedented rise in diseases that spread between animals and humans.

Travelling from Australia and Indonesia to the Arctic and the Andes, he follows scientists and communities on the front lines of this growing threat, uncovering remarkable stories of animals, ecosystems and resilience. Combining immersive reporting with natural history, Sentinels is a timely examination of our deep interconnectedness with the natural world and a powerful call to protect it.

On the night of the launch Andrew Sutherland will read some of his poetry, followed by Michael Dulaney in-conversation with Scott Mitchell (Lamestream podcast).

About

Michael Dulaney’s writing explores humanity’s links with the rest of non-human nature in the climate crisis. He was a reporter at the ABC for more than a decade, and his environment writing has been published by The Monthly, Literary Hub, The Big Issue, and the BBC, among others. He won the Overland Fair Australia Prize, and was a 2024 Climate Futures Fellow at the State Library Victoria. Sentinels is his first book, published by Scribe.

Scott Mitchell is an Australian Podcast Award-winning journalist and editor, and the co-founder of Lamestream. He most recently served as Editor and Executive Producer of the 7am podcast. Previously, he’s served as Digital Lead for the Audio Current Affairs division at ABC News.

Andrew Sutherland (he/they) is a Queer Poz (PLHIV) writer and performance-maker.
