Join us for an outdoor expedition led by Play Specialist Catherine Sewell this Waring Season! Through singing, storytelling and hands-on activities, children will learn about Waring (Wombat) Season in the Kulin Nation’s calendar.
Children will have the opportunity to go on a guided garden walk where they will learn about seasonal changes for plants and animals, discover how to plant seeds and even take home some seasonal vegetables in seedling trays to watch them grow!
Tailored for children aged 3-5 years old, Sapling School is designed to introduce the principles of sustainability and permaculture to children at a young age.
Join us for the opportunity to explore environmentally- conscious habits, and connection to the community and land at our inner-city oasis, bounded by the Birrarung (Yarra River).
Please be aware egg cartons are used.
Catherine Sewell works in play as an artist, facilitator and educator. She currently works as a Play Specialist with local council, primary schools, playgroups and kindergartens, as well as producing theatrical work and installations for children and families.
Sapling School is developed in consultation with the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, through the development of the workshop content, Woi Wurrung language and the educational resource material.
If you use a wheelchair or mobility device and would like to attend Sapling School, please contact us in advance at programming@abbotsfordconvent.com.au.
