LUCE DUET returns to the stunning Oratory to present another cello-centric program with guest artists Oscar Woinarski and Sarah Wang. Together they will perform in various combinations including solos, duos and quartets with the theme of “dance the night away!”
LUCE DUET is a collaborative project between cellists Charlotte Kube and Wendy Ju that aims to bring both beloved and under-appreciated classical music to new audiences. Luce, the Italian word for light, encapsulates the goal of the two cellists to shed light on the music they perform in a way that is both approachable and exciting. Charlotte and Wendy have always loved playing chamber music, particularly in the cello ensemble.
Charlotte and Wendy completed their Bachelor of Music (with Honours) together at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. During this time, they often played together in a cello quartet (later extending to a cello septet). They relished the opportunities to perform unique repertoire written specifically for cello ensemble, and this is one of the many reasons they decided to form LUCE DUET.
After a sell-out performance at Tempo Rubato in January 2024, Charlotte and Wendy have continued on their performance high with concerts at the Abbotsford Convent, Saint Paul’s Cathedral and a return to Tempo Rubato in 2025. They have also collaborated with BPM Studios to create a story-telling music video called “Home,” as well as expanding to wedding gigs in 2025.
