A new play by award-winning artist Sarah Carroll, presented by Midsumma Festival and Abbotsford Convent.

Fekei” is a traditional Rotuman sweet pudding, renowned for fostering community connections at cultural gatherings.

The story follows Akanisi (AK), a proud lesbian, and her whirlwind romance with Sam against a backdrop of Pasifika family values and traditions. Their rapid wlw romance leads to Sam’s plan to propose on the anniversary of AK’s grandpa’s passing—the Hertekof— coinciding with their one-year relationship milestone. However, Sam is unaware that AK hasn’t come out to her traditional church holding grandma.

A play that delves into the complexities of queer romance and Pasifika identity, addressing authenticity, cultural tradition, and family acceptance through theatre, culture, tradition and the making and sharing of food.

Development showing by invitation only.
