I spy with my little eye all sorts of things to create with! This summer children and families are invited to explore and discover in the stunning Abbotsford Convent gardens and create their very own small book together.
Led by artist Annasophia Larsen, ‘I Spy’ is a free workshop that creates an imaginative space for collaboration and creative play. Children will see what they can spy throughout the gardens – flowers, bubbles, water, paper, trees, and maybe even some birds and butterflies.
Children and their families will use sensory art materials to turn their experiences into images and stories, and learn skills to create and publish their own books together at this workshop and at home.
Children will not only take a copy of their book home, but copies of their books will be distributed around the site’s cafes and galleries for other visitors to the Convent to read and enjoy.
‘I Spy’ sessions are recommended for children aged 2– 5 years old. This is an activity for a child and their parent/carer to enjoy together. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
About the Artist
As a self-prescribed professional artist from the age of five, Annasophia Larsen can remember door knocking around her neighbourhood to sell artworks to unsuspecting neighbours. Although she now uses more established methods of exhibiting her art, Annasophia still engages with her art making with the same fun and joy that she did as a child. Annasophia has many years’ experience making art with and alongside children and families. On top of her art practice, Annasophia teaches children about all sorts of fun things at the Melbourne Museum, supports other artists in their work with children at City of Melbourne’s ArtPlay and makes books with children as a Kids’ Own Publishing teaching artist.
‘I Spy’ a part of Convent Kids – an exciting new year-round program developed by the Abbotsford Convent Foundation for children and families to explore and create art together.
‘I Spy’ is proudly presented in partnership with Kids’ Own Publishing. Kids’ Own Publishing creates spaces for children and families to make stories together using simple book-making and publishing techniques, including the WePublish app for iPad.
The Abbotsford Convent Foundation acknowledges the City of Yarra for supporting this project.
