As dusk descends upon the Convent and the neighbouring colony of Grey-headed Flying Foxes fly out across the Birrarung to feed for the night, BAT MASSIVE begins.
BAT MASSIVE explores human and non-human experiences in exile; a nomadic reverie of the places we always return to.
BAT MASSIVE moves through a special bat crossing, punctuated by sound and light installations, live music performances, immersive projections, pop-up bars and food curated by community providores and more.

🦇 Visit Naarm’s bat colony by canoe as the species wake for their night in the sky. An experience designed to celebrate the beauty and ecological significance of this nocturnal native creature, join Mappa Outdoor and Up the Creek for an immersive prelude to the Abbotsford Convent’s BAT MASSIVE program.
An opportunity to learn about the history and ecology of the grey-headed flying fox from the unique vantage point of the river before returning to Abbotsford Convent at sundown for BAT MASSIVE.
