Each year, ANAM presents a series of masterclasses by some of the world’s leading classical instrumentalists and pedagogues, given as part of their work with musicians on repertoire, technique and performance. These are up-close, ‘open lesson’ style masterclasses open to a public audience, offering priceless insights into the secrets that lie behind a great performance – and unique learning opportunities for music lovers and aspiring musicians alike.
Taking its name from 20th-century master Witold Lutosławski, the Lutosławski Quartet was founded in 2007 and is now one of Poland’s leading string quartets. As the resident ensemble of the National Forum of Music in Wrocław, the group has built an international reputation for its precision, expressiveness and commitment to contemporary music.
Over the past decade, the Quartet has appeared at major festivals including Warsaw Autumn, Wratislavia Cantans, Klarafestival (Brussels), Hong Kong Arts Festival and Tongyeong International Music Festival (South Korea), and has performed in some of the world’s most respected halls — from Berlin’s Konzerthaus to Bozar in Brussels and the Warsaw Philharmonic.
Their collaborations span classical and jazz artists alike, including Garrick Ohlsson, Piotr Anderszewski, Uri Caine and Charles Lloyd, and the ensemble regularly works with IRCAM in Paris. The Quartet records extensively for Naxos, DUX and CD Accord, championing music of the 20th and 21st centuries and giving voice to Polish composers such as Karol Szymanowski, Paweł Mykietyn and Marcin Markowicz (a member of the ensemble).
