FRINGE 2024: The Scrolls: 3,000 days…and counting

A stunning, active archival climate-focussed artwork of extraordinary beauty and impact — The Scrolls: 3,000 days…and counting proudly presented by Abbotsford Convent in collaboration with CLIMARTE. 

Starting on Earth Day 2022 (26 March) and ongoing until Earth Day 2030, every day for 3,000 days, award winning botanical artist Sharon Field adds a drawing or painting from her immediate environment to The Scrolls. 

In communicating the complex, mad heartbreak of the Climate Crisis, Sharon’s Scrolls are a powerful, timely call to action to preserve and protect invaluable ecosystems upon which all life on Earth depends. This special viewing launches an international tour of ‘The Scrolls: 3,000 days…and counting’ and includes a discussion of the City of Yarra’s updated Climate Emergency Plan.

Sharon Field

An award winning botanical artist on a quest to mobilise as many people as possible to do everything in their power to halt the damage and begin healing ecosystems. Connecting children with their natural environments has been the subject of a number of programs where Sharon has worked closely with the Rangers and other staff at Ginninderry in the ACT.

Before becoming a full time artist in 2009, Sharon had a long career in the Australian Public Service, including many years living and working in Papua New Guinea as well as on humanitarian programs in Africa and the Pacific. Having also served for 20 years as a volunteer firefighter protecting Ngunnawal and Ngambri lands (also known as the area around Canberra), Sharon had become acutely aware of the interconnected global climate and biodiversity crises and is an exceptional communicator on all its manifestations.

CLIMARTE

Since 2010, CLIMARTE has brought together a broad alliance from across the arts, humanities and sciences to advocate for immediate, effective and creative policy action to restore a climate capable of sustaining all life.

As an initiator, an educator and a catalyst for artists and arts organisations to participate in groundbreaking, socially engaged exhibitions and events intersecting climate science and culture, CLIMARTE’s work harnesses the creative power of the arts to inform, engage and inspire action towards a fairer, zero emissions future.

Accesibilidad

La tienda is wheelchair accessible. There is step-free access to the venue. Wheelchair users enter at the main entrance. There are uneven footpaths throughout the grounds. 
 
There are 2 two-hour accessible on-street parking spaces located on St Heliers Street, beside Main Gate. There are six accessible parking places are located at the front of the car park on the northern side of St Heliers Street. There is also a car park located within a short distance of Main Gate. The entrance is near a dedicated pedestrian thoroughfare and road cross over. 
 
There are accessible toilets at this venue, though not all toilet doors are automatic.
