Matrimony  features a captivating installation by Naarm-based visual-artist, writer and curator Josephine Mead, offering a reflection on her own wedding — Presented by Abbotsford Convent.

The work consists of an installation of paintings of Josephine’s bridal-bouquet, a sculpture, and is accompanied by a sound-score by BJ Morriszonkle und Nero Friktschn Feuerherdt.

Matrimony considers the possibilities of queer love and opens up conversation around different notions of love, ritual and commitment from the local community.

As part of the exhibition, a “conversation circle” will take place on  Saturday 1st February, to explore what matrimony and love mean, from different sexual and cultural perspectives! Get ready to engage with the history of the site—once rooted in religion—and consider how queer voices may spark conversations and challenge convention.
