Precautionary measures due to coronavirus (COVID-19)

As we monitor and evaluate developments related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Abbotsford Convent Foundation has made the difficult decision to temporarily close c3 Contemporary Art Space effective Wednesday 18 March 2020 to ensure the health and wellbeing of our staff, volunteers, artists and visitors. We will be closing the gallery until further notice. St Heliers Street Gallery, which is a smaller exhibition space accessible through Cam’s Kiosk, has also been closed, as Cam's is currently only trading outdoors.

Currently, the broader Convent precinct, including our cafes, restaurants and gardens, remain open to the public.

We are currently working closely with our onsite community, creative partners and venue hirers to support the urgent state-wide health measures outlined by the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services, and other government authorities. Mass gatherings are currently limited to 100 people in enclosed spaces and 500 people in outdoor spaces at the Convent. As a precaution, many meetings, workshops and regular events at the Convent will be postponed or will proceed only with a reduced attendance cap.

Our regular markets are retail spaces of great importance to farmers and producers, and provide essential access to fresh food and produce for the community. As food markets are exempt under the current State Emergency conditions, the monthly Abbotsford Farmers Market and the Vegan Market will continue to trade at the Convent until advice from the Government changes.

We acknowledge this is a difficult time for Melbourne’s creative and hospitality sectors. As an organisation supporting a diverse onsite community of small businesses, the decision to postpone exhibitions and events is not made lightly. We do hope you will continue to support local businesses and independent practitioners at the Convent. If you cannot visit in person, please consider other ways you can help – maybe attend an online class, buy a gift card for future workshops, or purchase handmade goods through an artist’s website. Our Wellbeing Wing also remains open for appointments, with practitioners continuing to support the community throughout this uncertain period.

Additional cleaning measures have been put in place throughout the precinct but we do ask, for the benefit of the whole community, that all visitors please remain vigilant to their own health and hygiene, and practice social distancing. If you are unwell with flu-like symptoms, please remain at home and seek medical attention as required.

Please take care of yourselves and each other in the coming weeks and months.

We look forward to reopening c3 Contemporary Art Space and resuming normal event programming as soon as it is safe to do so.

Thank you for your patience and support.
