Thicker Than Water – Reading
‘Thicker Than Water’ is a site-specific performance set in a functioning bar, where audiences receive the unique experience of being placed inside the performance space amongst the performers. Disguised as fellow patrons and wait staff, performers emerge from the ranks of the audience as new realities unfold one after the other to surprise and delight the viewer: a murder-mystery, deeply private exchanges, furious arguments and above those, two desperate writers and an upcoming make-it-or-break-it chance to break into Hollywood. The duo draft and redraft their script, crossing the boundaries of genre, style and artistry in search of a winning formula, reshaping reality in the bar as they go – all the while exposing modern day cultural idolatry and the joyous possibilities of imagination. The fourth wall disappears as the audience become voyeurs in the thick of the action, where anything could happen at any moment or table.
'Thicker Than Water' is currently being developed at The Abbotsford Convent and will premiere Off Broadway at Joe's Pub (The Public Theatre) New York City in May 2018. A live reading of the work followed by a feedback session will be held at Cam's Kiosk on 21 September, culminating the first stage of the script development.
