Melbourne Fringe: Fringe Furniture 31
From the reassuringly practical to the confusingly obtuse, Fringe Furniture has seen it all. A boundary-pushing showcase of cutting-edge industrial design, this is no Ikea showroom (though you might still find something comfy to sit on).
Design brings us together, around tables or on couches, in love-seats and back-seats and those weird egg seats. This year, Fringe Furniture is all grown up, and for its 31st birthday we’ve asked artists to consider the transcendental power of design – how the practical objects we use every day (and likely take for granted) might help bring us closer and free the voice, spark conversation, give way to new kinds of communication. Bet you never thought a chair could do that, right?
The stunning Abbotsford Convent is once again throwing open its doors, grounds and gardens as the long-standing home to this truly unique Melbourne Fringe stalwart. Come ready to buy, or ready to re-think – but expect the unexpected. We guarantee you’ll have something to say about this.
Every Sunday of the Festival, you can experience the exhibition through the eyes of an artist with our Artist Led tours. For patrons who are blind or have low-vision, we also offer audio described Tactile Tours. For more information visit the Fringe Festival website.
