Australian Heritage Festival – Historic Gardens Special Tour
Join us on a tour of the Abbotsford Convent’s historic gardens and grounds and learn how the landscape, gardens and trees can unlock the history of this site from pre-colonisation to today.
The historic Abbotsford Convent grounds and gardens are nationally recognised for their heritage significance. Join Head Gardener, Landscape Architect and artist Simon Taylor on a tour of the historic grounds and learn how the gardens, trees and flora tell the story of the site – from pre-settlement and early colonisation, to it being a closed monastic site for more than 100 years. Learn how the community came together to save the site from development, the impact volunteers had on restoring the gardens and shaping the Convent into the arts, cultural and learning precinct it is today. Simon will share personal stories as well as research he has undertaken on the formal gardens and plans for the site’s sustainable future.
Sign up to the Convent’s monthly e-news, The Humbug, to keep abreast of what’s on at the Convent.
