Mechanism Landscape Design

    Landscape Design

Mechanism Landscape Design (MLD) is a landscape design studio headed by Emma Dry and Matthew Henry. Based at the Abbotsford Convent, MLD creates concepts for a wide range of gardens (from balcony to acreage) in urban and rural contexts.

MLD identifies the principles at play in a project and teases them out to arrive at a design where substance informs the style. This allows the creation of a garden that is unique for our client’s needs and for their site.

MLD's gardens provide a multi-sensory experience, connecting people with nature via liveable and functional spaces, designed for the clients’ lives and the way they aspire to interact with their outdoor environment.

Inspired by natural materials, such as ethically sourced bricks, stone and timber, MLD design customised features and structures: steps, decking, paving, pools, pergolas, walls and sheds. They also work with local artists to create unique sculptural pieces.

Lastly, MLD make apt plant selections to create plantscapes rich in texture and rhythm to suit the soil, light and water capacity of the site.

    MLD offer the following services:
